A Virtual Tour of Sowerby in 1913

A classic photograph was taken by Thomas Heap in 1913 from the top of St Peter’s Church tower looking west. Thomas formerly lived at Church Terrace in Sowerby and was a friend of the local postman, Levi Haigh, and followed him on his rounds taking photographs of the village. The photograph below is probably from around 1940 and has been used as it is clearer. There is a comparison between the two here. Point your mouse to a building to see its description, click on a building to see more details.

The same applies to the map below the photograph – this covers much the same area but shows buildings that are hidden or off the side of the photograph.
